Dr. Moses Appelis a Postdoctoral Fellow at My OCD Care who specializes in evidence-based treatments for OCD, anxiety, and depression in adults and adolescents.
Dr. Appel graduated summa cum laude from Touro College with a B.A. in psychology. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University, where he conducted research on stigma related to specific OCD subtypes. Dr. Appel has also completed a year-long clinical rotation at Columbia University’s Center for OCD and Related Disorders where he exclusively treated patient’s suffering from the broad spectrum of OCD presentations, including a variety of “taboo” OCD subtypes and “pure O” using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
While at Hofstra, Dr. Appel treated patients in the Anxiety and Depression clinic where he used traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as in the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) clinic where he treated patients presenting with a broad range of clinical disorders. Dr. Appel has also completed a year-long clinical rotation at Zucker Hillside Hospital’s Behavioral Health College Partnership program where he used CBT, ACT, and DBT skills to treat patients individually, as well as in groups.
Dr. Appel utilizes a relaxed and flexible approach to therapy which is warm, caring, and collaborative, yet targeted and goal oriented. He uses a variety of skills and techniques from CBT, ACT, and DBT to help each individual patient achieve their unique goals. In addition to his clinical work,
Dr. Appel is also an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Touro College.
